Mounting Hardware and Transformers

Wedging the top plate in a block of wood can make assembly a bit easier.
I have used a couple of 4 x 4 off cuts with a saw cut run through to hold the chassis.

Have a nice clean work space and use an old towel or cloth to protect the amplifier / transformers and work surface.

Screw the 12mm M4 bolts into the valve sockets to hold them in place.
It's a nice tight fit, so they will hold the sockets whilst you install the washers and nuts.

Make sure to install a shakeproof washer on each bolt.

With the screwdriver in place, use a small socket wrench to tighten the nuts.

On the bolts with the tag-strip, install in this order,
shakeproof washer, tag-strip, nut.

Install a solder lug on the outer most EL34 socket.

Install the two RCA sockets making sure to use the insulating washers.

Solder the ground lugs together prior to tightening.

Install speaker binding posts.
Save the spare plastic washers to use as spacers on the volume control.

Use a small screwdriver to hold the post in place whilst tightening.

Check using a multimeter on low ohms range to make sure the sockets
are isolated from the chassis top plate.

Using a small flat blade screwdriver, prise open the fuse draw.

Install the two 2 amp fuses (1 spare) as shown.

Replace fuse draw and fit IEC socket to chassis top.

Install the capacitor mounts, leaving the bolt close to the clamp screw loose for the moment.

Tighten the other clamp bolt then remove the bolt close to the clamp screw.

Slide the capacitor into the mount, then tighten screw.

Now reinstall and tighten other mount bolt.
Repeat for the other capacitor.

Place the chassis top plate on two blocks of timber as shown.

Mount the transformer set starting with the output transformers.

Use a single large flat washer on the top side of the transformer mount.

On the power transformer (largest) use two flat washers and the longer M4 bolts.

Tighten the transformer bolts with a screwdriver on top, and socket wrench under the chassis.

Using the saved plastic washers as spacers, mount the volume control potentiometer.
